Picross puzzles — also called nonograms or griddlers — are the picture logic puzzle: the numbers beside a row say how many squares in a row are painted, in order, and the same for every column. Reason it out and a pixel picture appears.

Here the sheet is grid paper and ink: two brushes under the thumb — paint and cross — and pictures of animals, food, machines, letters and numbers that stay hidden until the last square. 500 puzzles from 5×5 to 15×15.

Every puzzle was checked by a line solver: it can be finished by row-and-column logic alone, so a child is never forced to guess.

How to play

Pick the paint brush or the cross, tap a square or drag along a line. A line whose numbers already add up is dimmed. The first puzzles are a voiced lesson on the live grid — 'a 5 in a row of 5 means paint the whole row'.

A mistake is shown only when a rule is broken — a row with more painted squares than its numbers allow turns red with the reason under the board. Big Undo, Restart asks first.

What your child learns

Nonograms are deduction with numbers: adding up block lengths and gaps, seeing that a 4 in a width of 5 must cover the middle three, and checking each line against its clue. Counting, addition and careful reasoning — and a picture as the reward.

The science behind the games

Every Dad4Kids game is built on one simple truth: children want to play, not study — so we turn learning into a game worth replaying. The method draws on peer-reviewed research in game-based learning, motivation, and how memory works.

FAQ

Is this the same as Picross?

Same puzzle — Picross is Nintendo's name for nonograms. This is our own pixel nonogram game with the same rules.

Does the game show the picture early?

No. The picture and its name appear only when the grid is complete; before that the board never hints which squares are right.

Can it be solved without guessing?

Yes — every puzzle was verified to be solvable by row and column logic alone.

How big are the puzzles?

From 5×5 for beginners to 15×15 in the last chapter, with big clue numbers even on a tablet held upright.
