Math games for 6th graders have to handle the thing that makes sixth grade hard — the number line going below zero. Deep Number gives that line a meaning your child can see: the surface is zero, above it is plus, below the water is minus, and «which number is deeper» is the same question as «which number is smaller».

Negative numbers you can point at

The campaign runs through opposites (−7 and 7 are the same distance from the surface), comparing across zero, moving up and down through zero, and then tenths of a metre, rounding and expanded form — 500 levels of it.

The dive is the answer

The submarine only moves to the depth your child names, so a wrong answer is a visible miss, not a red cross. Every new idea is explained before it is asked about.

How to play

Five phases: approach the target area, scan with sonar, set your numbers — dial a torpedo depth on the digit drums, compare signed positions, pick the safe interval — then fight: pilot the Numeris, dodge depth charges, strike from below, and escape to the ordered coordinate. The drone Dot projects hints onto the ruler; wrong answers cost a little hull, never the mission.

What your child learns

Signed numbers as positions above and below zero, comparing negatives (−20 is higher than −80), absolute value as distance from zero, place value from thousands to thousandths, decimal comparison and equivalence (4.5 = 4.50), signed addition and subtraction as movement, rounding to a required place, number line scales, and multiplying or dividing by 10, 100 and 1000 shown as digits migrating between columns — never as a magically moving point.

The science behind the games

Every Dad4Kids game is built on one simple truth: children want to play, not study — so we turn learning into a game worth replaying. The method draws on peer-reviewed research in game-based learning, motivation, and how memory works.

FAQ

Is depth not usually written as positive?

The game labels it clearly as signed elevation relative to sea level, which is the mathematically correct convention — and an optional classic depth display exists in settings. Zero as the shining surface makes negative numbers physically obvious.

How is division by ten taught?

By digit migration: the display shows every digit stepping into a column ten times smaller while the sonar range physically rescales. 21 math-engine tests and 66,000+ validation checks keep every value honest.
